What does "story" mean in programming?

story is one of the most common terms in software development. This guide explains what it means, how it is used in practice, and why it matters, with real examples from the developer world.

Definition

Short for user story. A brief description of a feature from the perspective of the user. The typical format is: 'As a [user], I want [feature] so that [benefit]'. Stories define what to build without prescribing how.

Example

"Write a story for each user-facing feature so the team knows the acceptance criteria."
