What does "searching" mean in programming?

searching is one of the most common terms in software development. This guide explains what it means, how it is used in practice, and why it matters, with real examples from the developer world.

Definition

The process of finding a specific element within a data structure. Linear search checks each element in order. Binary search works on sorted data and is much faster for large datasets.

Example

"Use binary searching on the sorted array to find the target value in O(log n) time."
