Subject + base verb (he/she/it: + -s/-es)

Usa la forma base para I/you/we/they. Añade -s o -es para he/she/it. Negativo: don't/doesn't + verbo base. Pregunta: Do/Does + sujeto + verbo base?

Conjugación

Sujetowork
Iwork
Youwork
He / She / Itworks
Wework
Theywork

Palabras clave

alwaysusuallyoftensometimesneverevery dayevery sprinton Mondaysin general

Errores comunes

✕“She review PRs every day.”
✓“She reviews PRs every day.”
He/she/it siempre necesita -s.
✕“I am pushing to main every Friday.”
✓“I push to main every Friday.”

  • “She reviews pull requests every day.”
  • “The API returns a 200 status on success.”
  • “We deploy to production on Fridays.”

Práctica

Every morning, the team a standup meeting.

Tocá las palabras de arriba en orden

She code reviews before merging any PR.

The API a JSON object on success.

Presente Continuo

Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing

Usa am/is/are + la forma -ing del verbo. Negativo: am/is/are + not + verbo-ing. Atención: algunos verbos no se usan en forma continua (know, understand, want, need).

Conjugación

Sujetowork
Iam working
Youare working
He / She / Itis working
Weare working
Theyare working

Palabras clave

nowright nowat the momentcurrentlythis weekthis sprinttodaystill

Errores comunes

✕“I am deploying every Friday.”
✓“I deploy every Friday.”
✕“I refactoring the module.”
✓“I am refactoring the module.”
El auxiliar am/is/are es obligatorio. Omitirlo es un error muy común.

Ejemplos de developers

  • “I'm refactoring the authentication module this week.”
  • “The CI pipeline is running the tests right now.”
  • “We're migrating to a new database — it should be done by Friday.”

Práctica

We the authentication module this week.

I (debug) a tricky race condition at the moment.

I on the bug you reported — I should have a fix soon.

The CI pipeline the tests right now.

Presente Perfecto

Subject + have/has + past participle

Usa have/has + el participio pasado. Negativo: haven't/hasn't + participio. Usa 'have' para I/you/we/they y 'has' para he/she/it.

Conjugación

Sujetodeploy
Ihave deployed
Youhave deployed
He / She / Ithas deployed
Wehave deployed
Theyhave deployed

Palabras clave

alreadyyetjusteverneverrecentlytodaythis weekso farsincefor

Errores comunes

✕“I have pushed the fix yesterday.”
✓“I pushed the fix yesterday.”
Si el momento es específico (yesterday, last week, at 3pm), usa Pasado Simple — nunca Presente Perfecto.
✕“Did you ever deploy on a Friday?”
✓“Have you ever deployed on a Friday?”
Para preguntas sobre experiencia de vida: 'Have you ever...?' no 'Did you ever...?'

Ejemplos de developers

  • “I've added the ticket to the backlog.”
  • “We've merged three PRs today.”
  • “She has never used this framework before.”

Práctica

I the ticket to the backlog.

Tocá las palabras de arriba en orden

We three PRs today and there are two more to review.

She this framework before, so onboarding will be quick.

Pasado Simple

Subject + verb-ed (regular) or irregular form

Añade -ed a los verbos regulares. Muchos verbos comunes son irregulares: sent, merged, built, wrote, ran, broke, found. Negativo: didn't + verbo base. Pregunta: Did + sujeto + verbo base?

Conjugación

Sujetofix
Ifixed
Youfixed
He / She / Itfixed
Wefixed
Theyfixed

Palabras clave

yesterdaylast weeklast sprintagoin 2023on Mondayat 3pmthis morning

Errores comunes

✕“I have fixed the bug yesterday.”
✓“I fixed the bug yesterday.”
✕“I sended the email to the client.”
✓“I sent the email to the client.”

  • “She opened a pull request two hours ago.”
  • “The team shipped the feature last sprint.”
  • “We fixed the outage before any users noticed.”

Práctica

The team the feature last sprint.

We (deploy) the hotfix yesterday morning.

She a pull request two hours ago.

We the outage before any users noticed.

Pasado Continuo

Subject + was/were + verb-ing

Usa was/were + la forma -ing. Usa 'when' + Pasado Simple para la acción que interrumpe ('I was reviewing a PR when the server crashed').

Sujetodebug
Iwas debugging
Youwere debugging
He / She / Itwas debugging
Wewere debugging
Theywere debugging

Palabras clave

whilewhenat that momentall morningat 3pm yesterday

Errores comunes

✕“I reviewed a PR when the server crashed.”
✓“I was reviewing a PR when the server crashed.”
✕“I was fixing the bug last night.”
✓“I fixed the bug last night.”

  • “I was reviewing a PR when the server went down.”
  • “The team was deploying the new release when the alert triggered.”
  • “She was debugging the issue while the client was waiting on the call.”

Práctica

I the authentication module when the production alert fired.

Tocá las palabras de arriba en orden

The server correctly when we noticed the memory leak.

While she the code review, the CI pipeline failed.

Pasado Perfecto

Subject + had + past participle

Negativo: hadn't + participio.

Conjugación

Sujetomerge
Ihad merged
Youhad merged
He / She / Ithad merged
Wehad merged
Theyhad merged

Palabras clave

alreadyby the timebeforeafternever ... before

Errores comunes

✕“She already merged the PR before the review was done.”
✓“She had already merged the PR before the review was done.”
✕“When I arrived, the deploy already finished.”
✓“When I arrived, the deploy had already finished.”
'Already' y 'by the time' son señales claras de que se necesita el Pasado Perfecto.

Ejemplos de developers

  • “She had already merged the PR before the review was finished.”
  • “The server had crashed twice before we identified the root cause.”
  • “I had pushed the fix to staging before the standup started.”

Práctica

She the PR before the code review was even scheduled.

The team (write) the postmortem before the meeting began.

The server twice before we identified the root cause.

I the fix to staging before the standup started.

Futuro Simple (will)

Subject + will + base verb

Negativo: won't + verbo base. Usa 'will' para decisiones y ofrecimientos espontáneos.

Sujetodeploy
Iwill deploy
Youwill deploy
He / She / Itwill deploy
Wewill deploy
Theywill deploy

Palabras clave

tomorrownext weeknext sprintsoonprobablyI thinkI'm sure

Errores comunes

✕“I fix it.”
✓“I'll fix it.”
'I fix it' suena incompleto — di 'I'll fix it'.
✕“I will attend the meeting tomorrow.”
✓“I'm attending the meeting tomorrow.”
Para eventos ya planificados (una reunión ya en el calendario), el Presente Continuo ('I'm attending the meeting tomorrow') suena más natural que 'will'.

Ejemplos de developers

  • “Don't worry, I'll fix that bug for you.”
  • “I think this approach will cause performance issues later.”
  • “If you share your screen, I'll help you debug it.”

Práctica

Don't worry, I fix that bug for you.

Tocá las palabras de arriba en orden

I think this approach cause performance issues later.

If you share your screen, I help you debug it.

Futuro Continuo

Subject + will be + verb-ing

Usa will be + verbo-ing.

Sujetopresent
Iwill be presenting
Youwill be presenting
He / She / Itwill be presenting
Wewill be presenting
Theywill be presenting

Palabras clave

at this time tomorrowthis time next weekby [time]all day tomorrow

Errores comunes

✕“At 3pm I will present the results.”
✓“At 3pm I will be presenting the results.”
'I will present' (Futuro Simple) dice que ocurrirá. 'I will be presenting' (Futuro Continuo) dice que estará en progreso en ese momento exacto. Elige según lo que quieras enfatizar.
✕“Tomorrow I will be send the report.”
✓“Tomorrow I will be sending the report.”
No olvides el 'be': 'I will presenting' es incorrecto — debe ser 'I will be presenting'.

Ejemplos de developers

  • “This time next week, we will be deploying the new release.”
  • “At the standup tomorrow, I will be presenting the new architecture.”
  • “By 3pm, the pipeline will be running the full regression suite.”

Práctica

This time next week, we the new release.

At 2pm tomorrow, the team (migrate) users to the new plan.

At the standup tomorrow, I the new architecture.

By 3pm, the pipeline the full regression suite.

Futuro Perfecto

Subject + will have + past participle

Usa will have + el participio pasado.

Sujetoship
Iwill have shipped
Youwill have shipped
He / She / Itwill have shipped
Wewill have shipped
Theywill have shipped

Palabras clave

by [date]by the timebefore [future event]

Errores comunes

✕“By Friday, we will finish the migration.”
✓“By Friday, we will have finished the migration.”
'By Friday, we will finish' usa Futuro Simple, pero 'By Friday, we will have finished' es más natural y preciso.
✕“By the time you arrive, I will deploy the fix.”
✓“By the time you arrive, I will have deployed the fix.”

  • “By Friday, we will have shipped all the features in the milestone.”
  • “By the time you review this PR, I will have addressed all the comments.”
  • “We will have migrated to the new database before the quarter ends.”

Práctica

By Friday, we all the features in the milestone.

Tocá las palabras de arriba en orden

By the time you review this PR, I all the comments.

We to the new database before the quarter ends.

Presente Continuo vs. Presente Simple

Presente Simple

Hábitos, rutinas y hechos permanentes. Palabras clave: always, usually, every day, every sprint.

“The team reviews every PR before merging.”

Presente Continuo

Acciones en progreso ahora mismo, o situaciones temporales. Palabras clave: right now, currently, this week, still.

“The team is reviewing your PR right now.”

Practica: Presente Simple vs. Presente Continuo

Right now, the deployment pipeline the new build.

Our CI pipeline always unit tests before deployment.

Look! The server errors right now — let's check the logs.

She usually her PRs by noon.

I can't talk now — I a production incident.

Our team in two-week sprints.

Presente Perfecto vs. Pasado Simple

Palabras clave: already, yet, just, ever, never, so far, since, for.

“I have already merged the PR.”

Pasado Simple

Palabras clave: yesterday, last week, ago, at 3pm, in 2023.

“I merged the PR an hour ago.”

Practica: Presente Perfecto vs. Pasado Simple

I this kind of bug before, so I know the fix.

She the PR yesterday afternoon.

We three incidents so far this month.

The team the migration last Friday.

I this error before. Any ideas?

The outage at 3pm yesterday.

Pasado Simple vs. Pasado Continuo

Palabras clave: yesterday, last week, ago, when.

“The server crashed when I was deploying.”

Pasado Continuo

Palabras clave: while, when, at that moment.

“I was deploying when the server crashed.”

Practica: Pasado Simple vs. Pasado Continuo

I the logs when the alert fired.

The outage right after the deploy finished.

While I the tests, the CI pipeline crashed.

The team the release when the outage happened.

I the PR when my laptop died.

She at 3pm sharp.

Presente Perfecto vs. Pasado Perfecto

Palabras clave: already, yet, just, since, for, ever, never, so far.

“I have already merged the PR.”

Pasado Perfecto

Palabras clave: by the time, before, after, already (en un contexto pasado).

“I had already merged the PR before the review started.”

Practica: Presente Perfecto vs. Pasado Perfecto

I the PR before the review even started.

We three PRs today.

By the time the postmortem started, I the full timeline.

She never used this framework before (and still hasn't).

The pipeline twice this morning before the fix landed.

I three tickets to the backlog this morning.

Will vs. Going To

Will

Decisiones espontáneas, ofrecimientos y predicciones basadas en opinión, no en evidencia. Fórmula: will + verbo base.

“I'll fix that bug for you.”

Going To

Fórmula: am/is/are + going to + verbo base.

“We're going to deploy this Friday: it's already on the calendar.”

Practica: Will vs. Going To

Look at those error logs: the server crash soon.

The tests just failed. I check what's wrong.

We migrate to the new database next sprint: it's already on the roadmap.

I have this fixed by end of day. You have my word.

The deploy script is failing again. Ok, I take a look right now.

We already scheduled it: the team demo the new search feature on Friday.

Our monitoring system an alert every time the error rate spikes.

I with the new caching layer right now, so don't deploy yet.

We this bug before — check the archived tickets.

The outage about two hours, starting right after the deploy.

I the logs when I noticed the spike in latency.

By the time support called, the team the root cause.

I'm not sure yet, but I think we need another server.

At this time tomorrow, we the migration.

By next release, we all the legacy endpoints.

Puntos clave

  • Usa el pasado simple en el standup para trabajo completado: 'I fixed the bug yesterday.'
  • Usa el presente continuo para trabajo en curso: 'I am refactoring the auth module.'
  • Usa el presente perfecto cuando el momento exacto no importa: 'I have opened a PR for review.'
  • Usa el pasado continuo para incidentes: 'I was reviewing a PR when the server went down.'
  • Usa el futuro perfecto para compromisos de sprint: 'By Friday, we will have shipped all the features.'
