Una guia practica para developers hispanohablantes. Que decir, errores comunes y como salir del paso cuando no entiendes algo.
Puntos clave
- El standup tiene tres partes: ayer, hoy y bloqueos. Aprende una o dos frases para cada parte y cubriras el 95% de las situaciones.
- Tu turno debe durar entre 30 y 60 segundos. Si necesitas mas tiempo, di: 'Let us sync after the standup.'
- Cuando no entiendes algo, pedir aclaracion es siempre la decision correcta. Hay frases estandar para eso.
- El error mas comun es traducir palabra por palabra del espanol. Los standups en ingles usan patrones fijos, no frases de forma libre.
- Los bloqueos son informacion importante. No los omitas porque no sabes como decirlos en ingles.

El standup es el minuto mas dificil del dia
La mayoria de los developers que tienen el espanol como primer idioma dicen lo mismo: escribir codigo en ingles esta bien, leer documentacion en ingles esta bien, escribir emails en ingles esta bien. Pero el daily standup es diferente.
El standup es en vivo. Todo el equipo esta mirando. Hay que hablar sin preparacion, ser claro y conciso, y repetirlo al dia siguiente. No hay corrector automatico. No hay tiempo para buscar una palabra.
Esta guia es un kit de supervivencia. Cubre exactamente lo que necesitas para llegar al standup sin bloquearte, sin quedarte en blanco y sin hablar cinco minutos cuando solo necesitabas treinta segundos.

No tienes que improvisar. Estos patrones cubren la gran mayoria de situaciones en el standup. Lelos, memoriza los que mejor encajen con tu trabajo y usalos manana.

Common mistakes and how to fix them
Errores comunes y como corregirlos
La mayoria de los errores vienen de traducir directamente del espanol o de intentar decir demasiado. Estos son los mas comunes.
I was working yesterday in the login page.
I was working on the login page yesterday.
En ingles se dice 'work on something', no 'work in something'. Ademas, la expresion de tiempo va al final.
Today I will working on the payment module.
Today I am working on the payment module.
Para hablar de lo que haces hoy, usa el presente continuo ('I am working on'), no 'will working'.
I have a blocker because the API of the backend team is not ready yet so I cannot continue with my task.
I am blocked on the backend API. I have a dependency on the backend team.
Se conciso. Di que te bloquea y quien puede desbloquearte. Nada mas.
Yesterday I did many things. First I reviewed the PR of Maria and then I also fixed a small bug in the checkout and then I started the refactor that we discussed.

Usa una lista. Evita 'first... then... also... and then.' Te hace sonar inseguro y ocupa demasiado tiempo.
What to say when you do not understand
Que decir cuando no entiendes algo
Esta es la situacion que mas miedo da a la mayoria de los developers. Alguien dice algo en el standup y no lo escuchas bien. Quiza habla demasiado rapido. Quiza usa un acronimo que no conoces. Quiza la conexion se corto un segundo.
Pedir aclaracion no es una senal de debilidad. Es lo que hacen los profesionales en todos los idiomas. Estas son las frases exactas que puedes usar.
You did not hear something

Five quick tips for your next standup
Cinco consejos rapidos para tu proximo standup

Preparate 15 segundos antes de que empiece el standup. Escribe una frase para ayer, una para hoy, una para bloqueos. No tienes que leerla en voz alta. Solo tenerla escrita ya ayuda.

Habla despacio. Cuando estas nervioso, hablas mas rapido. Ir despacio es mas claro y mas facil de seguir.

No te disculpes por tu ingles. Habla y punto. 'Sorry for my English' tarda tres segundos y no aporta nada.

Si te quedas en blanco, di 'Give me one second' mientras recopilas tus pensamientos. Es completamente normal.

Despues del standup, escucha como formulan las cosas tus companeros. Toma prestados sus patrones. El lenguaje del standup es contagioso.
