What does "SaaS" mean in programming?

SaaS is one of the most common terms in software development. This guide explains what it means, how it is used in practice, and why it matters, with real examples from the developer world.

Definition

Software as a Service. A software delivery model where the application is hosted by the provider and accessed by users over the internet, typically through a browser. Users pay a subscription instead of buying and installing software. Examples: Slack, Notion, Salesforce, GitHub.
